Almost Ready to Roll

The layout of The Kitchen Table is pretty much set. As you can see, we've added RSS feeds from the main FireRescue1 site and from FlashoverTV at right. There's also an option for you to subscribe to an RSS feed of posts from The Kitchen Table.

We've also got an author listing, and an About page on FR1 that lists author biographies.

Speaking of authors, we've got several great bloggers who are ready to join us at The Kitchen Table -- I'll let them introduce themselves as they appear here over the coming weeks.

Thank you, South San Francisco FD

The members of the South San Francisco Fire Department were kind enough to let us take some pictures while they sat around their kitchen table this weekend. They're now the models for our Kitchen Table header at the top of the blog.

FR1 editor Jamie was in South SF with his camera to cover the 'Bark Force' search dog event they hosted Saturday. Check out his article and slideshow of rescue dog pictures.

Get your Smokey on

I keep seeing an ad on the way to work that's caught my eye. It's mainly just a big picture of Smokey the Bear, but the main text says 'Get Your Smokey On.'

They're still using the 'Only You Can Prevent Wildfires' line, too, but The Smokey campaign seems to have gotten much hipper on the whole. According to the 'vault' page, Smokey, at over 60 years old, is the longest running public service campaign in history.

You can see the new Smokey TV ads as well as practical information, like a map of large working wildfires at

NFPA blog highlights FR1 coverage

The NFPA, the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week, posted a great article on their blog (, about FR1's Prevention Week coverage.

They interviewed Jamie and posted a screen shot of our info page. Check it out here.

(The NFPA blog is a nice example of a frequently-updated blog for a special event, too.)
