I agree he should have been wearing a helmet, eye protection, gloves and steel toed boots. Having said that, with or without proper PPE, do you poke an unstable structure with a stick while you're standing in the collapse zone? I'm not sure this demonstration of the simple lever was what he had in mind, but it could have been worse! He could have been killed.
